The Third Street Schoolhouse will forever be remembered.
The school, built in 1915, housed elementary and Sugarcreek/Shanesville High School students until 1931 when the Junior-Senior High was built. The school was then used as an elementary until 1974, when the property was purchased by Andreas Furniture and later sold to SUPERB Industries in 1999.
Community Liaison Bev Keller says unfortunately, after John Miller, the owner of SUPERB, realized the building could not be restored, the school was razed.
Keller says roughly 25-percent of the new 2,200 square foot plaza in front of SUPERB is being dedicated to the monument, designed by David Reidenour and Sherry Crilow, that will feature an arch with an engraved silhouette of the Third Street School.
