Bob was the owner-operator of the former B & M Ashland Station and the former B & M Bait and Tackle, both in Nelsonville, Ohio. He also was the owner/operator of the former Forrest Trucking Company. He had also served as a Nelsonville police officer and deputy sheriff for Athens County.
He was born August 10, 1943 in Orrville, Ohio and was the son of the late Robert C. Forrest and Opal Butcher Forrest Hopkins. His step-father, Leslie W. "Butch" Hopkins, is also deceased. Bob was raised by his grandparents, the late Pearl and Grace Kepler. His wife, Mary M. Stapleton Forrest died March 19, 2008. Additionally, he was preceded in death by two infant sons, a brother, a sister, two grandsons, and a great-grandson.
He attended the First Baptist Church at New Philadelphia. An avid outdoorsman, his favorite pastime was fishing, but he also enjoyed hunting. Bob was also an accomplished cook.
He is survived by his nine children, Chuck and Nikki Forrest of Hillsboro, O., Karen and Donnie Riley of Jacksonville, Florida, Diana Picket of The Plains, O., Butch and Donna Forrest of Logan, O., Lisa Flora of Springfield, O., Renee and Lonnie Sigler of Lancaster, O., Tina and Tom Milburn of Dover, O., Linda and Ranson Waddell of Logan, O., and Marianne and Chet Harper of Canton, O., twenty-four grandchildren, Lacy, Jordan and Tishy Forrest, Jessica, Jenny, and Joshua Forrest, Chelsey Spafford, Kayla and Erin Sigler, Cortnie and Cassie Forrest, Mariah Waddell, Tyler and Zander Milburn, Heather and Chad Carnes, Sassy, Codie, and Ernie Picket, Schylar and Eli Forrest, C. J. Harper, and Crystal and Kyle Flora, and seven great-grandchildren Scarlet Flora, Emma Grace Forrest, Jadence Lemaster, Braxton Forrest, and Nevaeh, Jayla, and Dakota Carnes.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 29, 2012 in the Longview Cemetery at Bowerston with Pastor Andy Schultz officiating. Calling hours will be observed on Saturday from 12:30 until 1:30 P.M. in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville.
