Donald Paul Brown, age 85, of Gnadenhutten, O., passed away at New Dawn Retirement Community in Dover, on Thursday, January 10, 2013.
Born August 4, 1927 in Adena, O., Paul was the son of the late Joseph Bill and Lena (Turner) Brown.
In 1945, Paul graduated from Jewett High School. He served in the United States Navy from August 4, 1945 until August 4, 1946. On July 30, 1947 at the Jewett Methodist Church, Paul married Irijeanne M. (Wilson) Brown. Irijeanne preceded Paul in death on May 15, 2011.
Paul started his working career at Hanna Coal Co. in Cadiz, then went to Huberta Coal Co. in Richmond before buying Stewart & Reichman Sand and Gravel in Gnadenhutten, where he was the owner for 25 years. After retiring, Paul enjoyed family time with his grandkids and great grandkids, mowing the grass on his Johnny Deere tractor and going to the garage to keep Tim and JP in line. He was also a member of the John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church in Gnadenhutten.
Surviving family members include his two sons Daniel P. Brown of Indianapolis, Indiana and Timothy G. (Julie) Brown of Gnadenhutten; his grandchildren Heather Jo Lee and J P (Jami) Brown both of Gnadenhutten; and three great grandchildren Austin, Kash and Rylee.
In addition to his parents and wife Irijeanne; Paul was preceded in death by two brothers Robert E. and William Brown.
Funeral services for Paul will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 11 a.m., at the John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church with the Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Gnadenhutten Clay Union Cemetery in Gnadenhutten.
Calling hours will be Monday, January 14, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the church and one hour prior to services on Tuesday, also at the church.
