In 1923 the family moved to Rt. 1, Dennison, OH, where Ella attended seven grades at Pleasant Valley School. In 1930 the family moved to Uhrichsville, OH, where Ella spent the rest of her long life. Ella graduated from Uhrichsville High School, Class of 1935.
From 1941 until her retirement in December 1980, Ella was employed by The United Bank of Uhrichsville (now Chase). During her long tenure at the bank, Ella served in many capacities from bank teller to Secretary to the President of the bank and secretary to the Board of Directors. She was of great help to many residents of the area both in her job and in her life apart from her work. During WW II Ella, along with many others, served sandwiches and coffee to the servicemen who came through on the troop trains that stopped at the Dennison Depot.
Ella was a lifelong member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a member of FCC Uhrichsville from 1931 until her death. She began the children’s Sunday School program there while in her teens and taught the 4 and 5 year olds for many years. In later life she taught adult Sunday School classes and led the study programs for her CWF circle. She was always active in the mission work of her church, including caring for the Cleveland Children’s Home and working at the local Food Pantry (until the week before her death).
Ella was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Verna, her brother Charles Herman Gladman and his wife Elizabeth, her sister Helen and husband Robert Hunt, and by an infant sister Wilma Edith. Survivors include her brother and his wife Robert and Linda Gladman of Boise, ID, and their children Barbara (and Ron) Hanna and Kimberly (and Eric) Copeland; niece Lynne (and David) Levy of Norman, OK, and their children Beth and Ben; nephew Bill (and Judy) Hunt of The Woodlands, TX, and their children Ami, Kelly (and Dan) Conrad, Jesson, and Adam; nephew Kevin (and Sharon) Hunt of The Woodlands, TX, and their child Jennifer Wells; nephew Thomas (and Brenda) Gladman of Austin, TX, and their children Jessica and Joshua, as well as by many wonderful cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

The family is deeply grateful to the many friends who helped Ella in her later years, especially Jan and Neal Hooker and Joyce Tornero, whose extraordinary kindnesses over the years made it possible for Ella to remain in her home until her death. We are also grateful to FCC Uhrichsville church members, Community Hospice, and other friends who supported us so beautifully during the last days of Ella’s life. We request that any memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commerical Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH, 44663, or to a charity of one’s choice.
