Each Ohio county president from the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation was given a chance to meet with their respective United States Representative in an open forum about issues facing today’s current farmer, in Washington DC, Wednesday.
Some Representatives were visiting constituents back in Ohio, resulting in a meeting with a legislative aid, while other Representatives met with farmers on the Capital steps.
However, 18th District Congressman Zack Space took a more traditional approach, by meeting in his office with eight county presidents, including John Davis of Carroll County, who says conflicting issues were discussed.
Davis Comments:
Davis also says Farm Bureau presidents were pleased that Space circulated a letter opposing the efforts of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), in an effort to overshadow the Livestock Care Standards Board voters elected to create in November of 2009.
Davis Comments:
Also in response to the meeting, Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau President Jerry Lahmers says he planted a seed.
Lahmers Comments:
Farm Bureau presidents also gave Space a ball cap with signatures of Farm Bureau members as to say, “Don’t cap our future," in regards to the Cap and Trade legislation.
Harrison County Farm Bureau President Jayne Wallace wanted to discuss Cap and Trade with Space, along with several other issues.
Wallace Comments:
Friday, WTUZ with offer a more in depth look at where Congressman Space stands on national and agricultural issues.
