Freda S. Gerber, 95, of Baltic, died Sunday January 15, 2012 at 9:45 PM in Walnut Hills Nursing Home at Walnut Creek after a brief illness.
Born October 19, 1916 in Baltic she was a daughter of the late William and Laura (Spahr) Messerly.
She was a 1934 graduate of Baltic High School and a graduate of The Aultman School of Nursing in 1937. She worked as a registered nurse for 2 years at Aultman Hospital at Canton then at Union Hospital at Dover for 30 years. She was a member of the Baltic United Methodist Church, Coshocton Chapter Easter Star # 157 and she enjoyed golfing, spending time with her family and enjoying winters in Florida.
Her husband Robert L. Gerber, whom she married March 4, 1939, preceded her in death on July 22, 2002.
Surviving are two sons Gary L. Gerber of Baltic and Dick (Jan) Gerber of Berlin; 4 grandchildren Tiffany (Ralph) Miller, Trish (Robert) Scheren, Eric (Carol) Gerber and Julie (James) Hershberger; 6 great grandchildren Ben and Chaise Gerber, Hallie, Ian and Seth Hershberger and Ethan Miller and a sister Burdelle Lowry of Canton.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a half brother Carl Messerly.
Private family funeral services will be held Thursday January 19, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Smith-Varns Funeral Home at 1018 W. Main St. Sugarcreek. Rev. Dan Egan will officiate and burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery at Baltic. Following services and burial the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM for a time of sharing and memories in the Zion United Church of Christ at Baltic. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County at 201 W. 3rd St. Dover, Ohio 44622 or the Baltic Alumni Scholarship Fund c/o Bob Troyer at P.O.
