John W. "Smoke" Affolter



John W. “Smoke” Affolter, age 65, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2013 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia, after a 1 year illness.

Born January 6, 1948 at Dennison, O., he was the son of the late Elmer and Neva Jean “Teny” (Page) Affolter.

Smoke worked in the local clay industry for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish and he watched football and racing on TV, especially Matt Kenseth. Smoke was a loving husband, brother, brother-in-law and uncle. He loved spending time with his great nephew Justus Armstrong.

Smoke is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy (Arter) Affolter, who survives of the home; his siblings Kathy (Williard) Menefee, Bob (Donna) Affolter, Jim “Bubbles” Affolter, Jeep Affolter, Tena (Jim) West, his special caregiver Ben Affolter, Becky (Butch) Bennington, Barb (Bob) Colvin, Connie (Karl) Hoop, Karen (Steve Morris) Williams; brother and sister-in-laws Carol (Dick) Roth, Bill (Rhonda) Arter, Adrian Arter, Thelma Affolter, Rhonda Affolter and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Smoke was preceded in death by 3 sisters Libby Wright, Angel Affolter and Jill E. Affolter; 2 brothers Dick Affolter and Bill Affolter and a sister-in-law Jill Affolter.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m., on Sunday, March 17, 2013. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4 p.m., at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville, with the Pastor Lisa Page Meese officiating.

In keeping with Smoke’s wishes, cremation will take place after services.
