On August 4, 1946, Mildred married Charles Edward Long, beginning her life as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. A lady of deep faith, she brought up her family to have a deep love of the Lord and His church. She was a longtime member of the Southside Gospel Chapel in Uhrichsville where she took an active role in worship by sharing her musical talents. Mildred was a gifted poet and an accomplished musician who loved to play the guitar, piano and mouth organ, and she was an avid, longtime fan of George Jones’ music. She also took great pride in caring for her home and will be remembered for her many efforts to make it a place of beauty and happiness.
After over thirty-two years of loving marriage, Charles passed away on May 22, 1979. They are survived by a son, Charles L. (Terry) Long of Dennison; daughters, Beverly (Jack) Wise of Dennison, Sharon (companion, Daniel Fantin) Stutler of New Philadelphia, Abbie (Michael) Carpenter of Dennison, Colleen Gay (Stanley) Vosick of Uhrichsville and Beth (Brad) Weaver of Uhrichsville; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Delbert L. Scott, Jr., as well as her stepmother, Haidee (Gray) Scott who raised her like her own.
Services for Mildred, officiated by Rev. Leonard Porter and Sherry Marty, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison.
