Monroe "Monk" Troyer



Monroe “Monk” Troyer 77 of Sugarcreek died Monday, July 12, 2010 at the Cleveland Clinc. He was born March 5, 1933 in Sugarcreek to the late Melvin E. and Saloma (Schlabach) Troyer.

He was manager of the former meat locker and freezer in Sugarcreek, then in 1973 he owned and operated the Gourmet Chalet on Edelweiss Drive in Sugarcreek, then owned the White Rose Laundromat in Canton South for several years, was zoning inspector for Sugarcreek for many years, worked as maintenance supervisor for Wal-Mart for several years, and then in his 70’s he started his own online business.

He was currently attending both Dover Alliance Church and New Pointe Community Church. He served his Civilian Service at University Hospital in Cleveland working as an orderly.

He is survived by his wife Marijane (Grabe) Troyer whom he married July 21, 1968 and his son Tom (Connie) Troyer of Sugarcreek, brothers and sisters Lester (Madeline “Maddy”) Troyer of Sugarcreek, Alta Miller of Navarre, Lydia Yoder of London, Ohio, Lovina “Ina” Yoder of Delaware, Ohio, Miriam “Mim” Lightell of Canton, his many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be missed by his beloved cats Lucy and Mindy.

He is preceded by his 2 sisters Mary Troyer and Mabel Troyer, and his brother-in-laws Mose A. Troyer, Noah Miller, Henry Yoder, Mose J. Troyer, Dan Yoder, Gene Lightell.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Dover Alliance Church 228 E. Third Street Dover with Pastor Timothy Steiner officiating. Private family burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Calling hours will be Wednesday 5-8 PM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek.
