Paul D. Tharp

Paul D. Tharp, 63, of Dover died on Sunday, June 27, 2010
at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born October 25, 1946, in Dennison, he was the son of the
late Donald E. Tharp and Wanda L. McCarty Stone.   He
graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1964.  Soon
after graduation, he joined the United States Air Force,
where he served our country from January 13, 1966 until he
was honorably discharged on September 22, 1972.

He married the love of his life, Shirley Becker on July
13, 1974.  Together they had two children.

Paul retired from Fleming Foods at Massillon, where he
worked for many years.  He was a member of the Dover
Alliance Church and the Pine Hill Hunting Club.  He
thrived by spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, or
gardening.  He also enjoyed playing cards with his close
friends, which he was fortunate enough to have continued
until just a few weeks ago.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Shirley, his two
sons; Shawn (wife, Erika) Tharp of Dover, and Nathan
(wife, Mindy) Tharp of Newark, Ohio; two grandchildren,
Ali and Brennan; and his brother, Joe A. (wife, Glenda)
Tharp of Woodsboro, Texas.

Along with his parents, Paul is also preceded in death by
his nephew; Sam Sayre; and his grandmother, Josie Tharp.

In honoring Paul’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to
the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover.  A
memorial service has been planned at the Dover Alliance
