Shelva Jean Birney Palmer, age 76 of Tappan Lake, OH went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. She was born April 1, 1936 in Scio, the daughter of Hartzell and Mary Lightner Davis.
Shelva is survived by her husband Robert Palmer of Tappan Lake; son Scott (Patty) Birney of Dennison; son-in-law Frankie Lay of Cranehill, AL; daughter-in-law Karen (Ed) Heavener of Scio; step-son Danny (Pat) Palmer of Atwood Lake; grandchildren Christina (Jeff) Bair of Canton, Taylor (Adam) Ladouceur of Broadview Heights, Kayden, David, Grace, and Isaac Birney of Dennison, Brooke-Ann (Branden) Welsh and Jacob Birney of Cottonwood, AZ; great-grandchildren Chalise Jackson and James Ruppert of Canton; a sister Grace Michaels of Columbus; a brother Ron (Rosalee) Davis of Carrollton; nephews Ted Michaels of Pasadena, CA, Tony Michaels of Washington, DC, Jonathon Michaels of Columbus and Matthew Davis of Carrollton.
Shelva was preceded in death by 3 of her children, David Birney, Gregory Birney and Lauren Birney Lay, a great-grandson Marques Jackson.
Shelva was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She made many friends over the years while working at Coultraps at Tappan Lake and Kmart in New Philadelphia. Her strong spirit and kind heart touched many lives. She had a passion for cooking for friends and family and passed down her cooking skills and recipes to them. Shelva loved spending time with her grandkids, and she will be greatly missed by them and all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 2, 2013, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, Scio. Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in Pleasant Valley Methodist Church on St. Rt. 250 at Tappan Lake, Scio with Rev. Henry Mooney officiating, Burial will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
