Mary Alice Reporting:

(Monday, December 17th) Monroe Township, Ohio – A head-on collision is fatal for a 44-year-old and caused incapacitating injuries to a New Philadelphia woman.

Troopers with the Steubenville Ohio State Highway Patrol Post were dispatched to U.S. 250 in Harrison County on Saturday just before 5:30am.

Lt. Joe Fetty says that the roadway was closed off to traffic shortly after just east of State Route 151.

“We had a 2017 Honda being driven by a 44-year-old Canton female that was heading westbound on US 250 and drove left of center and struck a 2010 GMC Denali that was heading east, driven by a 70-year-old New Philadelphia resident.”

The at-fault driver, Kimberly Kirkpatrick, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sandra Caldwell, of New Philadelphia, was transported by Tappan Lake Squad to Aultman Hospital with incapacitating injuries and her passengers, one who also received incapacitating injuries, were taken to Mercy Medical Center.

Fetty encourages all motorists, especially those traveling on US 250 through Harrison County, to leave a little early, to slow down, and to not follow another vehicle too closely.

“The first 10 miles of US 250 in Harrison County, over three years, we’ve had over 70 crashes just in that 10-mile stretch. We’re just asking drivers to stay off your phones and pay attention to the road.”

He adds that the fatal crash is still under investigation as the reconstruction unit works to determine a possible cause.
