Additional Pools Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Mary Alice Reporting:

(Friday, October 6th) Tuscarawas County, Ohio – Two more mosquito pools are testing positive for the West Nile Virus, according to the County Health Department.

Tuscarawas Environmental Health Director Caroline Terakedis says the department has been trapping mosquitos throughout the summer, and on Thursday, they received a report from the Ohio Department of Health lab that pools in Lawrence Township and Perry Township test positive for the virus.

To date the health department has identified 18 positive pools, she notes there is a message from the department’s mosquito surveillance that was conducted this year.

“Is that West Nile Virus is here. It’s all over Tuscarawas County and we need to take the appropriate precautions with avoiding mosquito bites, vaccinating our horses, and getting rid of scrap tires.”

Residents are asked to continue using mosquito repellent when outside, to wear long-sleeved clothing, and to get rid of any standing water.
