Almost 73,000 Deer were Checked in Ohio

(Tuesday, December 5th) Ohio – During Ohio’s deer-gun season, hunters check in just over 6,000 more white-tail deer than last year.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources report over the week-long season this year, hunters harvested 72,814 deer compared with 2016 numbers that totaled 66,758.

In Tuscarawas County, hunters checked 2,335 deer which is up from last year by 290.

Leading the state with white-tail deer checked is Coshocton County with 2,576, which is up by 224 checked deer from 2016.

Statewide, hunters can still bag a deer during two additional gun-season days on December 16th and 17th.

ODNR officials remind hunters that archery season is still open through February 4th.
