Angiolina “Lena” Dichiera – May 26, 2017

Angiolina “Lena” Dichiera, 93, of Dennison, formerly of Swissvale Pa., passed away at Hennis Care Centre in Bolivar on May 26, 2017, after a short period of declining health.  Born April 21,1924 in Swissvale, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Florio Dichiera and Teresa (Mammone) Dichiera.  Lena spent the first 56 years of her life living and working in the food industry in Pittsburgh, Pa.  Her fondest memories are of her dearest second mother, Mary Marguilo and her daughter Dolly (Marguilo) Panuccio.

For many years, Lena was employed at Donohue’s Restaurant in Pittsburgh, Pa., where many of her customers became lifelong friends.  Her generosity and kindness touched many people around the Three Rivers area.  In 1980 she moved to Dennison to share time with her sister, Mary Rotondo, until Mary’s death in August, 2000.  Lena was a fun and lively person, and developed many friendships with those living in the Southside of Dennison.  She was well known for her cooking and baking prowess, and her willingness to share her goodies with friends and relatives. When her sister Mary passed, she carried on the tradition of Pizelle making, a dying art in the Italian culture.  As a member of Immaculate Conception Church Lena was a faithful servant of God, praying and saying the Rosary daily.

Lena is survived by her nephew, Robert (Philomena) Dichera, and nieces Ann Graham of New Philadelphia and Elaine (Marty) Mitchell; great nephews, Richard (Dinah) Rotondo, John (Mary) Free, Patrick (Anna) Graham, Jim (Brenda) Rotondo, Vic Rotondo, and Kenny Rotondo; and great nieces Kathy (Rick) Reiger and Michelle Rotondo.

Lena is also survived by her dear second family in Pittsburgh, including Jim and Dolly Panuccio, Lou and Jack Winters, Debbie and Frank Pascarella, Frank and Cindy Gray, and Joe and Patty Pannucio.

Preceding Lena in death are her mother and father, a brother, James Dichiera, and a sister, Mary Rotondo.

Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate the funeral Mass on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10:00 AM in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  A luncheon will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Dennison, sponsored by the St Mary’s Altar society.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hennis Care Centre, Bolivar or Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison.
