Michele Spring Reporting:

(Thursday, January 10, 2019) Tuscarawas County, Ohio – The Tuscarawas County Auditor is reminding pet owners to purchase their 2019 dog licenses.

Larry Lindbergh said licenses are $16 until January 31st.

“If you have an adult dog, you are required to have a license for them and everybody is required to have a license regardless if your dog leaves your home or not. The penalty is equal to the cost of license, so it would be a $16 penalty after January 31st.”

Lindbergh said people can purchase a dog license from his office inside the courthouse annex.

He also noted that having a license could help if a pet goes missing.

“If your dog does happen to get loose and is found, there is a way to quickly identify whose dog it is so we can return the dog to you. Our dog wardens have the ability to look it up when they’re in their vehicle to find out who has that tag, as well as any person in the county can look it up on our website.”

Residents can also purchase tags through the auditor’s website with an additional convenience fee of $2.25, as well as at 17 authorized agents throughout the county.
