(Thursday, February 8th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – Buckeye Career Center recognizes Career Technical Education month through the “Director for a Day” event.

Public Relations Coordinator, Shyanne Carroll, explained that the event gave local business and community leaders a ‘behind the scene’ look at the training and education Buckeye students receive.

“A lot of visitors out of the ten, I would say at least six said they had been to the Career Center but they really didn’t get to dive in before our Director for a Day,” said Carroll. “So, it just gives them an in-depth tour and they really get to see what our students are doing in the lab and participate possibly, in what students are doing that day.”

Carroll added that the event also creates an opportunity for students to break communication barriers that may exist for students when it comes to reaching out to potential employers.

“That can be a little difficult and intimidating so as we bring these community members in, sometimes just that connection and the networking that they’re here for that day really helps our students to get to know people out in the community,” she explained. “And it opens them up so they are just more capable of doing interviews and speaking to people that maybe they wouldn’t normally talk to on a normal day.”

Attendees spent the entire day at Buckeye while classes were in session. They received a tour, one-on-one interaction with ambassador students and even participated in some labs.
