Bishop John J. Yoder, Jr., 79, of 6121 CR 19, Millersburg, died Friday, December 21, 2018 at his home following a year and a half battle with cancer.

He was born in Holmes County on August 19, 1939 to the late John C. and Lydia (Raber) Yoder and he married the former, Mary D. Schlabach on January 10, 1961. She died on May 18, 2015.

John was ordained as Minister in May 1973 and as a Bishop in 2004. He is a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

He is survived by his children, Atlee JJ (Anna) Yoder, Esta (David) Hershberger, Betty (Robert) Barkman and Myron J. (Naomi) Yoder all of Millersburg, Ivan J. (Esther) Yoder of the home and Bertha Yoder of Sugarcreek; 32 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; three brothers, Crist J. (Verna) Yoder and Mose J. (Polly) both of Clare, MI and Roy J.C. (Esta) Yoder of Baltic and brother-in-law Alvin (Sarah) Miller of Baltic.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Vernon A. Yoder; grandson, Firman Yoder; a great granddaughter Abigail Hershberger; brother, Eli J.C. Yoder and three sisters, Ada Weaver, Susie Troyer and Dena Miller.

Services will be held on Monday, December 24, 2018 at 9 AM at the Yoder residence with Minister Allen J. Yoder officiating. Burial will be in Raber Cemetery in Mechanic Twp., Holmes County. Friends may call anytime at the Yoder residence.  Arrangements are with Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
