Buckeyes dominate Illinois on Senior Day

(Columbus, Ohio)

The Ohio State Buckeyes celebrated 19 seniors on Senior Day at the Horseshoe on Saturday. In a pregame ceremony the players were introduced one by one. As they entered the stadium from the tunnel, thunderous applause and cheers bellowed from over 105,000 fans. The last player introduced was a player who came to Ohio State in 2013, from Wichita Falls, Texas. Joe Thomas Barrett ran out of the tunnel to the loudest ovation of all. He embraced head coach Urban Meyer who recruited him to Columbus back in 2013. Throughout his extraordinary career at Ohio State Barrett has broke 35 different records either at Ohio State or in the Big Ten, including one today for most rushing yards for a QB at Ohio State. He surpassed Braxton Miller for the record on a run in the first quarter.

The Buckeyes opened the game with the ball and promptly marched down the field on a 9 play 75 yard drive that was capped off by a 4 yard TD run by Sophomore RB Mike Weber. The Buckeyes would find pay dirt again on the very next drive with a 3 yard run by Barrett, which was set up by a 44 yard up the sideline by JR WR Parris Campbell. Ohio State would find the end zone two more times in the 1st quarter. Weber would score from 43 yards out to make the score 21-0 and Barrett would throw his 100 career TD pass to Bin Victor to round out the scoring at 28-0. The rout would be on as the Buckeyes would take a 38-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half would be played in a torrential down pour. Illinois would get on the board with a scoop and score as Ohio State backup QB would fumble the ball on the opening possession and Ahmari Hayes would take it back for a 54 yard touchdown to make the score 38-7. The Buckeyes would score two more times on passes to SR TE Marcus Baugh and Sophomore WR Bin Victor (his second of the day). Illinois would punch it into the endzone with from 9 yards out with 10:11 left in the game. The final on Senior Day 52-14. Ohio State improves to (9-2, 7-1) and Illinois falls to (2-9, 0-8). The Buckeyes clinched the BIG Ten East Division before the game as Wisconsin knocked off Michigan 24-10 earlier in the day. Ohio State will travel to Ann Arbor next Saturday to take on the Wolverines, kick off at noon on FOX.  Illinois wraps up their season at home as they welcome in Northwestern.
