Mary Alice Reporting – The Tuscarawas County Commissioners have approved a cash advance from the general fund as a way to not accumulate interest.

The advancement of $2.2 million is for the 911 emergency system to pay Motorola.

Commissioner Joe Sciarretti explained that this is financial responsible.

“We had over $6 million in the account and then, the six plus million. Long story short, once those dollars are up to the $8 million we’ll pay back the general fund the 2.2 million.”

Roughly 11 months is left of the ½ percent sales tax passed by voters. The funding will allow the county to upgrade the emergency system utilized by first responders and add six towers.

The tax increase will drop off after September 30, 2020.
