Christmas Decorating Safety Reminder

Mary Alice Reporting:

(Wednesday, December, 6th) Dennison, Ohio – If you’re decorating with lights for the holiday, firefighters are reminding you to remember some safety tips.

Dennison Fire Chief Dave McConnell says one main thing to look for on a Christmas light package is whether they are designated for indoor or outdoor usage.

“You should never plug more than two or three strands together, and if you have to use an extension cord make sure that the amps match and they’re rated for that. They can handle the load you’re putting on them.”

He adds to turn off all electrical decorations before leaving the home or going to sleep.

If you have children, one decorating tip is to avoid placing ornaments, lights, and electrical cords, or other small pieces where they can be easily reached by small children.
