Mary Alice Reporting:

(Friday, November 30th) Dover, Ohio – A fundraising tree festival had another successful year kicking off the holiday season in Tuscarawas County.

This year marked the silver anniversary for the Warther’s Christmas Tree Festival that is a fundraiser for the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital’s Auxiliary.

Hospital Community Relations Director Darrin Lautenschleger says that the event has expanded since its founding 25 years ago.

“They had hoped it would grow into something that would be beneficial to the hospital and the auxiliary’s mission of supporting the hospital, and it has taken on a life of its own. It’s really a community event now.”

87 trees and other themed items were displayed during the week-long festival and Lautenschlager notes that every item was purchased.

The trees are voted on and the People’s Choice award goes to Ho Ho Lego as the favorite large tree that was sponsored by Community Hospice.

“The small tree was designed by students at Buckeye Career Center FFA and floriculture program and it was called Christmas in the County, and was a very nice country theme.”

A final total will be released next year along with the money raised and other events hosted by the Auxiliary to purchase equipment or provide improvements at the hospital.
