(Friday, January 12rh) New Philadelphia, Ohio – A Winter Storm Warning goes into effect at 4:00 this afternoon and while officials are asking that you stay home if you do have to drive there are a few things to keep in mind.

Tuscarawas County Engineer Joe Bachman explained that crews will be doing their best to keep roads clear, but drivers should be cautious.

“Our goal is not to make sure that people can go 55 MPH,” he said. “Our goal is to ensure that, that person who is using some reasonable caution, can navigate our roads.”

Bachman added changes will affect the department’s response time in the case of inclement weather.

“We’re down in route so if we have a heavy winter I think people need to expect that our response time will be a bit slower than it has been in previous years.”

Rain is expected to turn to freezing rain by 3:00 this afternoon with temperatures dropping sharply into the mid-20s by tonight.
