Mary Alice Reporting:

(Friday, December 7th) A man from Dennison arraigned in New Philadelphia Municipal Court could face felony charges after he led an officer on a high-speed chase.

Wednesday morning around 4:20am, Officer Bradley Geist noticed a vehicle coming though W. High Avenue and estimates his speed at around 70 mph.

Police Chief Mike Goodwin says that Geist initiated his lights and the driver, 43-year-old Michael Western, fled.

“Vehicle continued on at a high rate of speed without stopping. Ran a couple of traffic lights here in town and some stop signs. The pursuit eventually end out on [State Route] 39 towards Carroll County.”

Speeds reached up to 105 mph and due to reduced visibility from snowfall, Geist reduced his speed but continued to follow the tracks in the snow.

“And activated his lights again and the vehicle pulled into a driveway in the Sherrodsville area. He took both people into custody that were in the vehicle, the driver and the passenger. The driver was charged with DUI.”

Other charges in Municipal Court include improper passing, speed violations, and traffic lane violations. The passenger was not charged.

A report will also be sent to the County Prosecutor’s office for potential felony charges.
