Mary Alice Reporting:

(Wednesday, October 10th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – The New Philadelphia Fire Department is keeping an open line of communication through an open house.

The Thursday event coincides with National Fire Prevention Week to raise awareness and educate about home fires.

New Philadelphia Fire Captain Jim Sholtz explains that adults and children can meet with firefighters, tour the station, and explore equipment.

“Med-Flight’s going to land a helicopter in the parking lot across the street from the fire station, we’ll be demonstrating all of our equipment we use for firefighting and rescues and dives. We have some many different jobs that we do.”

He notes that fire prevention is key; making sure residents have working smoke detectors, and knowing a fire escape route.

Sholtz adds that they are bringing back the “Firefighters for a Day” contest, where parents submit a photo of their child taken at the department’s open house. Additional details can be found on the department’s Facebook page.

This Thursday at the New Philadelphia Fire Station, WTUZ will broadcast live starting at 4pm leading up to the 5pm to 8pm event.
