Mary Alice Reporting:

(Thursday, December 27th) Harrison County, Ohio – High speed is a suspected factor for a double fatal Christmas Day accident.

The State Highway Patrol Steubenville Post continues to investigate a Tuesday one-vehicle crash along U.S. 22 in Harrison County occurred around 11:30pm.

Post Lt. Joe Fetty explains that the vehicle was heading westbound on 22 when it veered off the right side of the road.

“Struck a traffic sign and continued down into the gore and struck an embankment. Vaulted over the westbound on ramp and struck a guardrail and bridge pier. The vehicle came to rest in an upright position under neither the overpass.”

The accident was fatal for the driver, Harrison County Deputy and Firefighter Dale Resor, 34, of Freeport, and his passenger, Conotton Valley Volleyball Coach Megan Higgenbotham, 33, of Sherrodsville.

“We’re looking into the speed for sure as a factor. We’re also waiting [for] the autopsy results, as far as toxicology.”

The Stark County Coroner’s Office will conduct the autopsies while OSP’s crash reconstructionist continue to investigate.
