“Together Again”

Doris Louise Hill, 85, of Wainwright, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 22, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family. Born June 17, 1932 in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Albert Sylvester and Florence Isabelle (Gross) Swaldo.

Doris was a 1950 graduate of Tuscarawas-Warwick High School, graduating at the top of her class. She was employed as a bookkeeper by West Homes in Dennison for 20 years where she found it rewarding to assist in the care of individuals with special needs. A 64-year member of Sharon Moravian Church in Tuscarawas, Doris was a woman of faith who loved the Lord and her church family. She will be remembered by many as the “turkey lady” as she had a beloved pet and companion, Turkey Bird. Most of all, Doris was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who cherished the time she spent with her family.

On April 24, 1951, she married her childhood sweetheart, Carl Mays Hill, with whom she enjoyed nearly 62 years of marriage until his passing on March 21, 2013. They are survived by their children, Karen (Duane) Herchler, Bonnie (friend, Keith Seigler) France, Carla (Tony) Scott, and John (Lori) Hill; grandchildren, Ben (Mandy) Garver, Bryan Herchler, Shannon (David) Thomas, Tyson (Andrea) Scott, Cory (Kali) Scott, Jill France, and Ryan (Kelsey) Hill; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Carly, and Charlee, with two more expected. Doris is also survived by her sister, Bev (Don) McCutcheon, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by grandchildren, Nick France, Miranda Hill and Nicole Hill; great-grandson, David Thomas, Jr.; brother, Ervin Swaldo; and son-in-law, Fred France.

A celebration of her life, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Gooden, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 26, in Sharon Moravian Church. Inurnment will follow in Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH  44663.
