Dorothy Jean Spring, 89, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in Park Village Health Care at Dover following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Edward McClellan and Carrie Virginia (Campbell) Smith, Dorothy was born March 15, 1929 at Wellsburg, West Virginia.

Dorothy graduated from New Philadelphia High School before completing her education at the Huron Road School of Nursing at Cleveland.

She was a former employee of the Tuscarawas County Health Department and eventually retired from Union Hospital. She attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was a member of various organizations which include the Ohio State Nursing Association, the Ohio Public Health Nursing Association and Union Hospital Retirees. Dorothy enjoyed crafts and most of all she cherished time spent fishing and camping with family.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and George Manglallan; her grandson, Christopher Manglallan all of San Diego and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn Warren Spring whom she married on August 12, 1950; a granddaughter, Katelyn Manglallan; two sisters, Eleanor Mutti and Margaret Dryden and a brother, Irvin Smith

The family will receive guests on Monday, April 16, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A memorial service celebrating Dorothy’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating. Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
