Nick McWilliams reporting – A 23-year old drown in a body of water at the Frogtown Campground near Newcomerstown yesterday afternoon.

According to the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office, a 911-transfer call came in just before 2 p.m. in reference to a person swimming across the lake who began to struggle and had gone under.

Lieutenant Matthew Graham of the New Philadelphia Fire Department, who assisted on scene, says that his station arrived after Coshocton County divers had started searching.

“We were dispatched at [2:04] in the afternoon. Once we arrived on scene, Coshocton County EMS, Coshocton County Sheriff and other agencies were already on scene. They had divers in the water searching at that time.”

According to Coshocton deputies, a friend of the male attempted to reach the swimmer but was unsuccessful.

New Phila divers entered the water as well to assist and relieve swimmers who had been in the pond for an extended period of time.

“When we arrived on scene they had been searching for a substantial amount of time and were needing to come out to rehab. We collected some information, we prepared our divers and went ahead and made entry and continued searching.”

The male was removed from the pond at 3:33 p.m.

Additional units included fire departments from West Lafayette, Three Rivers, Dover, Gnadenhutten and the Newcomerstown Police Department as well as dive teams from Walhonding Valley Fire.

The name of the victim has been withheld pending family notification.
