Drugs Seized in New Phila Raid

<p>Mary Alice Reporting:

(Friday, August 10th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – One person is in custody following a search warrant Wednesday in the City of New Philadelphia.

The SRT Unit, comprised of units from the New Phila and Dover police departments, and New Phila fire department medics conducted the raid at 8 am.

Police Chief Mike Goodwin says that the search at a home in the 700 block of 11th Street NW was a result of information received that the individual was trafficking drugs. A warrant was granted once additional Intel was gathered.

A 38-year-old man, whose name is being withheld, was taken into custody without incident and charges have not been filed.

“A search of the residence found what we believe to be crystal methamphetamines, along with what we believe to be heroin and marijuana, some money, and an airsoft gun. Charges are going to be pending hopefully against this individual for trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs.”

Goodwin adds this is an on-going problem all communities are facing and the New Philadelphia police department is taking a strong stance.

“We are trying to gather more information so that we can get a search warrant and try to put these guys out of business. I know it’s going to be hard but we certainly want to [inform] that New Philadelphia is not the place to be operating a drug business and if we can search you down and arrest you, we are going to do that.”

An estimated value was not available as testing is conducted on the illicit drugs.
