Edward Lee Canfield – November 15, 2017

Edward Lee Canfield, 89, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Noah Parks and Maude Dale (Murphy) Canfield, Edward was born July 6, 1928 at Kerns, West Virginia.

Edward was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Then on August 4, 1953, he married the love of his life, Dolly Everett, and the couple reared five children, Edward, Terry, Penney, Holly and Kandy.

He was retired from Greer Steel where he worked as a machine operator and mechanic for over 32 years. Edward was also a member of the Steel Workers Union. He was an active member of the Nazarene Church where over the years he served a bus driver, Sunday School teacher, trustee, board member and usher.

Edward was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed tending to his farm and fishing and hunting. Also, in his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and creating special gifts for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dolly Canfield; his children, Edward Ray Canfield of Newcomerstown, Rev. Terry (Ruth) Canfield of Greensburg, Indiana, Penney (Tim) Simmers of New Philadelphia and Kandy (Greg) Griffith of Margate, Florida; his grandchildren, Carrie (Todd) Gammeter, Ashlee (Rev. Patrick) Knable, Rev. Joshua Canfield, Nathan Canfield, Mandy Boyles, Adam Simmers, Kasey (James) Carter, Hayley (Evan) Mcgraw, Taylor Griffith and Jordan Griffith; his great-grandchildren, Keenan and Isabelle Gammeter, Ellis and Mera Knable, Kaylee and Xavier Boyles, Mackenzie Carter and Harper and Ellwood Mcgraw and his siblings, Neva Rees of Marietta, Ted Canfield of New Philadelphia and Jim Canfield of Dover.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Holly Lynn Canfield; a granddaughter, Jaime Lea Griffith and eight siblings.

Private family services will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and interment will take place in Roxford Church Cemetery.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County for their care and compassion toward Edward during his final days.
