Mary Alice Reporting – Food assistance has exploded over the past two months and the VFW Post Canteen is conducting a food drive on Monday.
The New Philadelphia Veterans Coordinating Committee is hosting a Memorial Day service in the Court House Square from 11 am until noon.
Chairman Steven Chenevey asks residents to help fill a hunger need in the county by donating to their food drive.
“We’ve hear of long lines over at the Dover/New Philadelphia Food Pantry and the other day, drove over there and there’s a lot of people in this county that’s don’t have enough food in their own pantry.”
The non-perishable food is asked to be dropped-off in the parking lot located behind the Courthouse between 11am and 2pm that will then go directly to the Dover/New Phila Food Bank.
“The VFW has agreed to match up to $1,500 in cash donations and we’re going to be giving out a flag, as long as they last, to people who drop-off food or monetary donations.”
In addition, poppies will be handed out for every food donation and the VFW Canteen has pledged that, for every poppy, they will donate $2 to the Veterans Assistance Program in our local community.
