Michele Spring Reporting:
(Tuesday, September 11, 2018) New Philadelphia, Ohio – The local Fraternal Order of Police will hold a celebration to honor their 50-year members Wednesday, October 3rd.
Tuscora Lodge #4 President Robert Everett says they are very fortunate to still have several members who qualify for 50 years.
“It’s actually what I would call, not a nominal feat especially for our law enforcement officers because nature of the job many of the officers end up passing away shortly after they retire due to the stress and strain of everything they have to deal with.”
Everett said all seven qualifying members will be in attendance, as well as a very special-over 50-year member: 97-year-old Bill Moushey, from the McKinley Lodge #2.
“I recall Bill from back in the eighties. He was our second district trustee for the State FOP. Also, he at one point in time was in charge of the multi-county felony bureau that was in New Phila and then ended up going to the Attorney General’s Office.”
Everett said this will be a great time for members to honor and thank those who have come before them.
“We always try to exhibit that positive image of law enforcement because law enforcement seems to be kicked around a lot and we need to demonstrate that positive image so that we show the citizens and those we work for or worked for that we really are real, we really do care. We’re not just residing in the community, we’re a part of it.”
The celebration will be held at the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge at 6:30pm.
