Harold Ralph Riddle, 78, of Uhrichsville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 5, 2019, from the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia after battling cancer for seven years. Born March 28, 1941, he was a son of the late Samuel Edward and Doris Vivian (Riggle) Riddle.

At the age of 19, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country from 1960 to 1964, including duty on a ship stationed off the coast of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. During his time as a sailor, he developed a deep love of sailing and a wanderlust that he enjoyed throughout his life. He loved to travel, and even lived in different parts of the country like California and Florida among other places with Ohio always his home base. He was a welder for many years, working for Firestone and Republic Steel, as well as in home construction. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening which was one of his many talents. He was a member of Legacy Church in New Philadelphia, and his faith was a great blessing to him as he journeyed through his final illness.

On November 12, 1966, he married the former Laura Bailey with whom he has enjoyed nearly 53 years of marriage. She survives him along with their children, Misty (Wayne) Valentine and Keith (Brooke) Riddle, and grandchildren, Lane (Stephanie), Clay, Drew and Drake Riddle. He dearly loved his family, especially his grandsons, and treasured the time that he was able to spend with them. He is also survived by several siblings and was preceded in death by his brother, Sammy Riddle, in addition to his parents.

In keeping with Harold’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation. A celebration of his life is planned for a later date. This obituary will be updated as soon as service details are available. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
