(August 9th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – The Tuscarawas Health Department is encouraging back-to-school vaccinations.

Valerie Wallace, Registered Nurse, explained the main grades that require vaccinations include kindergarten, 7th grade, and 12th grade.

“Starting last year, there were some new requirements for 7th graders and 12th graders and that would be the Meningitis vaccine. 7th graders also need to get a TDAP vaccine. And what a lot of parents don’t realize is that it is law that children get these vaccinations.”

She says immunizations help to protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases such as Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Whooping Cough.

She says children can be excluded from school and extracurricular activities if they aren’t immunized by the 14th day of school.

Immunizations can be given at the Tuscarawas County Health Department, which is open from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.
