Mary Alice Reporting:
(Tuesday, December 18th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – A local Health Department is able to provide two doses of an overdose reversal treatment through a grant.
Naloxone essentially blocks the brains receptors to opioids creating an overdose reversal.
New Philadelphia Health Commissioner Vickie Ionno explains the grant was brought to her attention from Municipal Court Judge Nanette VonAllman.
“And we were excited to hear that we were awarded that grant. There’s no money involved but it was an award of 200 naloxone kits called Evzio. This is an injected version.”
Ionno says this is another way to get the life-saving treatment into the hands of those struggling with opioid addiction.
The New Philadelphia Health Department plans to distribute free kits to agencies including the courts and probations departments, police departments, and area recovery houses.
