Health Department Looks at STD Infection Rates

Mary Alice Reporting:

(August 11th) Tuscarawas County, Ohio – Local Health Department continues efforts to educate about a “silent” communicable disease.

Tuscarawas County Health Department RN Amy Kaser says chlamydia is the number one reported sexually transmitted disease in the county and throughout the United States.

“If it’s not treated it can eventually effect the reproductive organs and cause infertility. It can cause pelvic inflammatory disease.”

Kaser comments data from 2015 revealed 8% of patients in Tuscarawas County tested positive for chlamydia.

“So far this year, we’ve had a total of 198 communicable diseases reported to the Ohio Department of Health, and of that 198, 114 have been chlamydia.”

Kaser encourages anyone looking for more information about STD’s including testing to contact the Tuscarawas Heath Department.
