The Tuscarawas County Health Department is encouraging those attending the fair to practice good hygiene.
The County Fair hosts many activities involving person-to-person contact and with livestock throughout the grounds, precautions are needed to reduce the risk of transmission of the influenza virus.
Health Department Nursing Director Amy Kaser says hand-hygiene is a must when attending public places and says to wash them long enough to get any bacteria off them, or the next best thing is to hand sanitize.
She also recommends to never eat food inside the barns where animals are kept.
“You know you’re walking around the fairgrounds [with animals] so it is a good idea to clean strollers and shoes off.”
With many food options available, Kaser points out that certain products may spoil if in the heat for an extended time.
