Michele Spring Reporting:
(Thursday, September 13, 2018) New Philadelphia, Ohio – Tuscarawas County residents are invited to visit the Historic Schoenbrunn Village for one of their most popular events of the year.
The Autumn Lantern Tours allow event-goers to discover the village during a unique time of year by candlelight.
Site Manager Deidre Lute noted that because of the high volume of interest, the tours will be available Friday and Saturday evenings beginning at 7:30pm.
“We expanded them to two evenings this year because last year we had an almost record attendance of almost 500 people. So, that is a lot of people through the village within two hours. So, we expanded it so hopefully, the visitors have a better experience this year.”
Lute said this time of year in Tuscarawas County is one of the main reasons guests love to visit the village.
“You have that crispness in the autumn air, you have the trees just starting to turn, you have the smell of the wood smoke, and it’s kind of cool in the evenings. So you get that real homey country feel. And you have the ambiance of the lanterns and the candlelight and the upcoming Christmas season.”
Guests will be able to see costumed 18th-century storytellers as they tour the Village’s sixteen reconstructed cabins. Volunteers will showcase candle making, woodworking, sewing, and corn grinding.
The tours will be open until 9:30pm each night. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children.
