James A. Prysi, 84, of Uhrichsville, died Friday, March 16, 2018 at Claymont Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Born on March 13, 1934 in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Mary (Briggs) Prysi. While in high school he joined the United States Navy where he honorably served our country during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the Navy, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served during Vietnam. He retired from Stone Container after 19 years.

He married Janet Kratzer on January 8, 1955. After 62 years of marriage, Janet preceded him in death on September 9, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Prysi II, along with five brothers and one sister. James was a member of the Dover VFW and the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing bingo and fishing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching their sporting events.He will be sadly missed by his two daughters; Sherry Martin of Uhrichsville, Vicki (Joseph) Bays of New Philadelphia; brother, Kenny Prysi of Georgia; sister, Anna McMurray of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Patrick (Valerie) Martin, Mathew Martin, Jennifer (Deven) Dalton, and Brooke Bays; along with four great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, March 19, 2018 from 4:00-6:00 pm. A celebration of James’ life will take place on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Sandra Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. A funeral reception will follow at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
