Johanna Marie White, 82, of Gnadenhutten, passed away while surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Park Village Southside in New Philadelphia. Born March 23, 1936 in Steubenville, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Frank Thomas and Anna Josephine (Wszeborowski) Verhovec.
On October 2, 1952, Johanna married James Raymond White with whom she enjoyed over 61 years of marriage. They are survived by daughters, Karen (Tom) Miller and Kelli (Chris) Edwards; grandchildren, Amanda, Rebecca and Kyle Miller, Alexander, Braden and Rachael Cotsmire, and Christopher (Alexandria Rossey) Edwards; and great-grandchildren, Brody Miller and Camden Edwards. Johanna is also survived by her sister, Rose Kourim; brothers, Joseph (Phyllis), Frank (Sharon) and Ed (Dottie) Verhovec; brother-in-law, Jerry Gleason; numerous nieces and nephews; a longtime dear friend, Dorothy Edie; and special friend and caregiver, Penny Howard. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Julia Callentine and Cathy Gleason, and brother, Valentine Verhovec.
Johanna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and homemaker who loved creating a beautiful home for her family. She enjoyed tending her flower beds and took special delight in her extensive Christmas decorations for many years. In her younger years, she also enjoyed bowling and crocheting. She was employed for nearly 30 years by Tusco Manufacturing until 1983. In retirement, she enjoyed a new career working in Alexander’s Floral with her daughter, Kelli.
Johanna’s family will honor her life with a service led by her daughter, Karen, on Tuesday, October 16, at 11:00 a.m. in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery in Gnadenhutten. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
