John J. Russo, 87, of Dennison, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison. Born June 24, 1930 in Dennison, he was a son of the late John James and Asunta (Santa Lucia) Russo.
John was a lifelong Dennison resident and 1948 graduate of Dennison High School. He retired from Gradall Co. in 1992 after 29 years of employment and, in retirement, worked in security for Joy. He was a longtime member of the Dennison Knights of Columbus and a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. John loved competing in Bocce tournaments and going to Wheeling Downs, and was an avid Notre Dame fan. Above all, he loved his family and treasured the time that he spent with them.
On October 28, 1950, John married the former Mary J. Markovich who survives him along with their children, Pam Green, Paula (Rick) Celestino, Patty (John) Hunter and John Russo; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his sister, Kathryn Burdette, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Leonard “Thunder” Green, 3 sisters and a brother.
A memorial service for John is planned for Monday, April 9, at 4:00 p.m. at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Hospital Twin City and Crossroads Hospice.
