Joseph L. Pangrazio, Jr., 72, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia. Born October 12, 1945 in Dennison, he was the son of the late Joseph L. Pangrazio, Sr. and Hazel M. (Fox) Pangrazio.
Joe was a 1963 graduate of St. Mary’s High School before accepting a full athletic scholarship to play basketball at the University of Tennessee. He later transferred to Xavier University where he was a star player and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education. He also obtained a Master’s Degree in Counseling. He served his country in the National Guard for a number of years. Joe was a successful coach and health teacher for many years at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School and at East Canton High School, during which time he was a member of the Ohio Educators Association. A lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison, he also attended Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia.
He is survived by his loving companion, Lillian Devlin; sons, Nino (Traci) Pangrazio and Dino (Angela) Pangrazio; and grandchildren, Olivia, Nadia, Isaac, and Anthony Pangrazio.
Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate the funeral Mass on Thursday, May 17, at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow in Dover Burial Park. In keeping with Joe’s wishes, no calling hours will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Elementary, Sacred Heart Church’s Building for the Future Fund, and Community Hospice.
