Joseph W. Palmer Jr., 74, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 24, 2018 in the Inn at Northwood.
Born April 10, 1944 in Louisville, Kentucky he was a son of the late Joseph W. Sr. and Elizabeth Wright Palmer. Joe was also preceded in death by a nephew, Jack Hiatt.
Joe was a 1962 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and earned his Bachelors in Music in 1966 from Georgetown College in Kentucky. He furthered his education by taking Advanced Studies in Music at Indiana University and Suzuki Piano Training at Capital University in Columbus. Following graduation, he taught Music at four different high schools before opening Palmer Studio in New Philadelphia. Joe was a long time organist at Grace Lutheran Church in Dover and the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia. He was a member of the Fortnightly Music Club, Grace Lutheran Church and was active with the Tuscarawas County Philharmonic, Little Theatre, and he acted and served as the Music Director for Trumpet In The Land and The Stephen Foster Story.
Joe is survived by his sister, Joada (Alan) Hiatt of Greer, South Carolina; niece, Alison (Roger) Carpenter and three great nieces, Ada, Carolyn and Clare.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A service celebrating Joe’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd starting at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Brian Flood officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Following the service, a luncheon will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
