Nick McWilliams reporting – A 70-year old man from Kentucky is being praised for his quick thinking during an attempt robbery in Coshocton County.
James Bartlett was in the Coshocton McDonalds when 22-year old Nicholas Hayes entered with a knife, attempting to rob the store.
According to Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Dean Hettinger, Bartlett took matters into his own hands and attempted to control the situation.
“Mr. Bartlett, who happened to be a carried, concealed permit holder, drew his weapon out and began to order Mr. Hayes to drop his knife. Mr. Hayes refused to comply and began to leave the store. Mr. Bartlett pursued the suspect outside the store, where Mr. Bartlett was able to convince Mr. Hayes to drop the knife.”
The Kentucky man kept Hayes at bay until deputies arrived.
Hettinger says that without Bartlett’s help, the situation could have ended differently.
“Due to the heroic actions of Mr. Bartlett, deputies were able to take the suspect into custody without any injuries or loss of life.”
Hayes was charged with attempted aggravated robbery, and additional charges may be pending with the Coshocton County prosecutor.
