LeRoy Schupbach, 97, of Strasburg died Wednesday, January 18, 2017 in the Community Hospice Truman House.
Born August 24, 1919 in Canton he was a son of the late John and Alma Brock Schupbach. LeRoy was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jean C. Schupbach on June 6, 1995; daughter, Sandy Oehler and brother, Carl Schupbach.
He served in the United States Army during WW II and took part in the D-Day invasion of North Africa, Sicily and Italy. LeRoy was awarded 7 bronze stars on his campaign ribbon and had 790 days of combat. He retired as a Mail Carrier from the Sugarcreek Post Office in 1980 with 20 years of service. He also served as a Sugarcreek Township Clerk from 1960 to 1980. LeRoy was a member of Strasburg United Methodist Church and was a 75 year member of the Homer Weiss Post of the American Legion in Sugarcreek. In his spare time LeRoy enjoyed traveling and fishing, especially fishing trips to Canada.
He is survived by his sons, Gary (Jenifer) Schupbach of Michigan, Jim (Patty) Schupbach and Randy Schupbach both of Strasburg; son in law, Dick Oehler of North Canton; grandchildren, Matt, Vince, Deb, Denise, Brian, Coyla, Scott and Ryan; ten great grandchildren and his companion, Loretta Grove of Strasburg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Janaury 23rd at 11:00 am in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason Humble officiating. Interment will be in the Union Hill Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Sunday from 2-4 pm.
