(Tuesday, February 13th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – The Tuscarawas County Emergency Management Agency is working with other agencies and organizations to create more collaboration in the instance of a disaster.

EMA Director Alex McCarthy explained the agency hopes to create a COAD group.

“Community Organizations Active in Disasters. A few counties around the state and country have these and the premise is we want to bring together volunteer and community organizations to kind of collaborate for disaster preparedness endeavors.”

He added that there is common interest in ways to approach a variety of disaster situations among multiple local agencies.

“So, why build a wheel when you can collaborate,” he said. “Basically, there is some redundancy going on there and my goal with the COAD group is to alleviate some of that redundancy.”

He noted that while conversations about the idea are still underway, they are closer to making the group a reality.
