(Tuesday, September 12th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – New Philadelphia’s Mayor is encouraging donations to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.

Mayor Joel Day took a moment Monday night during the city council meeting to ask the community reach out to help those in need.

“Salvation Army, the Red Cross, the many faith based and private disaster response organizations are accepting monetary donations as well as donations of canned food and cleaning supplies.”

Mayor Day also encouraged those able to volunteer their time to do so as well.

“Work teams and volunteers are also needed, they’re calling for them right now. So, if you can find the time to volunteer to go south on a work team that would be greatly appreciated.”

Tuesday night a nationwide relief effort kicks off in the event titled, Hand in Hand: A benefit for Hurricane Relief.

The one-hour special, which will benefit those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, will air live and commercial free on Tuesday, September 12 at 8:00EDT/7:000CDT. It will be available on nearly every major network,  ABC, BET, Bravo, CBS, CMT, E!, FOX, HBO, HBO Latino, MTV, MTV2, MTV Live, MTV Classic NBC and Oxygen.
