Lola (Flinner) Miller, 102, of Walnut Creek, died at Walnut Hills Nursing Home on Thursday, October 4, 2018.
She was born on April 28, 1916 to George and Malinda (Miller) Flinner and graduated from Walnut Creek High School in 1934. She was a homemaker most of her life where her family always came first. Anyone who knew her would say what a giving and kind soul she was. She lived life with a positive attitude and it remained a part of her even as the end drew near.
Lola was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Walnut Creek for many years.
Her husband, Blake Miller, whom she married June 7, 1940 preceded her in death on March 9, 1999. Also preceding her were three brothers, Paul, Albert, and Lester Flinner as well as three sisters, Carrie Hill, Mary Bitikofer, and Elva Hershberger.
Lola is survived by her children, Nancy Soyars, Vivian (Duane) Miller, Brenda (Jimi) Differ and Richard (Sandy) Miller; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
Lola followed the Cleveland Indians faithfully and was still able to attend a game at the age of 100.
Lola and Blake spent 30+ winters at Alamo Palms in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. She won numerous pool trophies as well as participated in many shuffleboard tournaments.
She was also an avid card player. She excelled at Hand and Foot and Rook and continued playing until her eyesight regressed due to Macular Degeneration.
Services will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 12:00 PM (Noon) at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Walnut Creek with Pastor Darcy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s United Church of Christ Church Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10- 12 at the Church prior to services. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Walnut Hills Nursing Home for the compassion and care Lola received while a resident there.
They would also like to thank LifeCare Hospice for the care and support that was received during Lola’s last weeks.
