Lorene Fern (Miller) Wenger – October 6, 2017

Lorene Fern (Miller) Wenger, age 80, of Berlin, passed away peacefully Friday, October 6, 2017 after a brief illness. 

She was 1955 graduate of Berlin High School, Berlin, Ohio. She earned her Registered Nursing credentials at Aultman School of Nursing in Canton, Ohio and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. She worked as a nurse off and on, as family obligations allowed. She retired from the Grundy County (Illinois) Health Department, where she served in a variety of capacities as a public health nurse. Lorene was a member of the Berlin Mennonite Church in Berlin, Ohio after moving back to her birthplace from Morris, Illinois.

Prior to the move, Lorene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Morris, where she was an active singer and soloist in the choir and a Circle member. She also participated in the Morris Women’s Club and Morris Business and Professional Women’s groups. Lorene’s talents were many; she played as a solo pianist and organist and was an avid world traveler. She also enjoyed playing bridge and Rook with family and friends. 

A beloved daughter, mother and grandmother, Lorene was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Sevilla Miller and her siblings, Vernon, Ruth, Galen, Wayne, Olis, infant brother Claude, and baby sister Doris. She is survived by her son, Mitchell R., his wife, Deb and son, Jay; her daughter Tecya R. and son-in-law Kirk Anderson, and their two daughters, Jackie and Kirstie. Her brother Paul Miller (Barbara) and sisters Myrtle Fricke and Gladys (Ray) Mumper also survive her. 

The family plans for a memorial service Friday, November 24 at 5 PM at the Berlin Mennonite Church. Lorene’s family would especially like to thank Pastor Myron Weaver and his wife, Sheryl, and the Berlin Mennonite Church Community for their wonderful help and care.
